About

I’m a fantasist who writes short stories and poetry, primarily using fairy tales and myths as my inspiration. Our older stories fascinate me with how they lend themselves so generously to reworkings and re-imaginings. I keep coming back to certain idées fixes: Little Red Riding Hood, Bluebeard, witches (particularly Baba Yaga), Persephone, kitsune, and Welsh, Norse, Japanese, and Hindu myths.  When I’m not writing, I work at a private liberal arts college in South Carolina, where I direct the Creative Writing program and teach classes in composition, creative writing, and, of course, fairy tales.
